DFDS is growing and we are adding capacity all over the network. We just named our second freight ferry from Jinling Troy Seaways, and soon she will operate in the Mediterranean. Today we will add a new route and two newcomers to the DFDS fleet.
Early May we entered a five-year agreement with the paper producer Stora Enso to transport around 700,000 tons of paper and paperboard products annually. To accommodate the volumes of the agreement, we announced the opening of a new route between Gothenburg and Zeebrugge, and today we have launched the new route with one of the ferries departing at 15.00 CET.
Operation Director Andrej Zamkovoj says: “The two 2,450 -lane metre freight ferries Schieborg and Slingeborg that we acquired from third-party owners will be operating on the new route. To give the two ferries a proper DFDS welcome and to ensure that they feel right at home, MV Schieborg has been renamed Belgia Seaways and MV Slingeborg is now Gothia Seaways.”
He continues: “A huge thank you to those who worked hard on preparing the deal and the takeover ashore and on board. Great teamwork and a job well done! The biggest challenges still lie ahead of us, namely to put the ferries into operation smoothly and safely! Good luck to the captains Andrej Oresko and Julius Nagaitis, and their crews.”
In addition to Belgia and Gothia, Fionia Seaways will be transferred from the Gothenburg – Ghent route to the new route and will take part in the 8 to 12 weekly departures.
